University Partnership - Case Study

Sometimes great innovations come from going back to school.  That’s the path we took when we created Trident XtraCare gum with Recaldent – a unique form of calcium specially designed to help actively rebuild and strengthen tooth enamel.

We began collaborating with the University of Melbourne in Australia in the 1990s when we saw their interesting research on tooth strengthening.  They had noticed a correlation between diets high in dairy products and a reduced prevalence of cavities, and they worked to discover what exactly in dairy products could be involved in this phenomenon.

We continued our collaboration and brought the first Recaldent gum to market in Japan in 2000.  Together, we created a totally new product with health claims for oral care that were brand new to the gum category. 

The University of Melbourne has been instrumental in partnering with us as we licensed in their technology for Recaldent.  And today, we continue our partnership with the university on new research into the benefits of Recaldent technology.
