Feeling that you lack energy can impact your motivation to complete the mental and physical tasks of daily life. Of interest are foods and ingredient enablers that have been shown to intensify feelings of energy and improve measures of non-exercise performance over a sustained period of time.
The concept of experiencing "peaks and valleys" in energy throughout the day is common. Ingredient enablers have demonstrated ability to stimulate feelings of alertness e.g, caffeine as well as support exercise endurance and performance e.g., carbohydrate, among other outcomes.
We seek foods or ingredients that can provide sustained energy to enhance ability to perform daily mental and physical tasks. Those ingredients with supporting data demonstrating the benefit through use of standardized assessment techniques (e.g., profile of mood states, vigilance, memory, speed of information processing, motivation) would be prioritized. Metrics for efficacy should include measures of perceived energy as well as performance, especially related to everyday activities.
Enabler should be GRAS; NOT: Supplement, caffeine
Positioning: sustained energy to fuel daily activity; NOT: Related to exercise specific performance or endurance
